At MOTE — Museum of the Environment, we believe creativity, collaboration and new perspectives can help us explore our relationship with the world around us.

We regularly invite artists, performers, writers and creatives to get involved in our exhibitions, events and projects. Whether you’re an established artist or just starting out, our open calls offer opportunities to share your work, experiment with new ideas and connect with audiences.

Current Open Calls

MOTE Artist Battles

Six artists. Three creative battles. One final challenge.

We’re inviting artists and makers to take part in MOTE Artist Battles, a creative competition celebrating experimentation and the possibilities of reclaimed, recycled and surplus materials.

Six selected artists will compete across three categories: Drawing, Painting, and Textile & 3D. Each battle will challenge artists to create an original piece within three hours, with the winners progressing to a Grand Final.

MOTE Poetry & Environmental Rap Battle

Words for a changing world.

We’re looking for poets, spoken-word artists and environmental rappers to explore our relationship with the environment through original writing and live performance.

Performers will share their work at a live showcase exploring environmental themes, from nature and climate change to waste, community and the future. The evening will include live music and an audience vote to decide the winner.

21 Species: The Species We Share

An open call for artists exploring the natural world.

MOTE is collaborating with 21 Species on The Species We Share, an exhibition exploring the species we live alongside and our relationship with the natural world. We’re inviting artists to contribute work that encourages audiences to look more closely at the wildlife, habitats and biodiversity around us.

Exhibition period: April–June 2027
Open call: November 2026
