It has been a particularly exciting week at MOTE, with two fantastic events bringing together artists, musicians, photographers and visitors to celebrate creativity, share ideas and experience the building in new ways.
Exploring sound and materials with Planned Obsolescence

Tristan Burfiled at the Planned Obsolescence Private Viewing.
The week began with the opening of Planned Obsolescence, Thursday 8 October 7-9:30pm an exhibition exploring our relationship with materials, sound and the objects that surround us. The opening evening featured four incredible musical performances from two of the artists Tristan Burfield and Micheal Ridge and friends Paul and John, each offering a unique and thought-provoking interpretation of how materials can be used to create sound.
The performances encouraged visitors to look beyond the familiar and consider the possibilities of everyday materials in a different way. Alongside the music, the evening sparked engaging conversations about the exhibition and its themes, creating an opportunity for visitors to share their thoughts and interpretations.
The exhibition continues throughout October, offering visitors the chance to experience the work and explore its ideas for themselves.
Celebrating regional photography with the East Anglian Photography Awards

Visitors during the EAP Awards
On Friday 9 October, 7-9pm , MOTE welcomed the East Anglian Photography Awards for an evening celebrating the outstanding photographic talent across our region. With over 100 people attending, the building was filled with visitors coming together to appreciate the work on display and celebrate the photographers behind it.
Featuring 120 photographs, the exhibition showcased an incredible range of perspectives, subjects and approaches to photography. One of the highlights of the evening was hearing more about the stories and inspiration behind the images, offering a deeper insight into the work and the people who created it. The evening also saw this year’s winners announced, recognising the talent and creativity represented throughout the exhibition.
It was a pleasure to host the awards at MOTE and welcome so many people into the building for an evening dedicated to celebrating regional photography.
Bringing people together through creativity
Having two such successful events in one week has been a wonderful reminder of the role that art, music and photography can play in bringing people together. From the conversations sparked by Planned Obsolescence to the excitement of the photography awards, both events demonstrated the value of creating spaces where people can encounter new ideas, discover creative work and connect with others.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in both events, including the artists, performers, photographers, organisers and visitors who made the week so special.
We look forward to welcoming more visitors to MOTE in the coming weeks. Whether you are visiting for an exhibition, an event or simply to explore the building, there is always something new to discover.
