It’s hard to believe that MOTE has now been open for five weeks.
What started as an empty historic building has quickly become a space filled with art, music, conversations, new faces and lots of exciting ideas. Seeing people walk through the doors, discover the building and engage with what’s happening inside has made these first few weeks incredibly special.
Since opening, we’ve welcomed the PVs for Jane Stewart’s Re-Form and Zasmina Neldevoca’s Beneath the Surface, enjoyed live music from Bella Ross & Clacton Arts Centre, and welcomed artists including Emma Kerridge, Grant Bustin and Julie Linton through the museum. We’ve also been lucky enough to connect with so many brilliant people and organisations across the region.
The museums flagship programme, The Shape of Change, has already brought together work from Sue Gascoyne, Judit Prieto, Tina Bullen, Audrey Bowling, Julie Linton, Zasmina and Jane Stewart — with plenty more to come.
Over this past month, MOTE has started to become more than a museum; it’s become a place where people can meet, create, share ideas, experience something new and simply spend time together.
And we’re only five weeks in.
There is so much more to come — new exhibitions, events, performances, workshops, talks and collaborations. We’re learning, growing and developing alongside the people who are coming through our doors, and we’re incredibly excited to see where this next chapter takes us.
